The quick and the dead:
the benefits of postbiotics

Speakers:
Prof. Atte von Wright, Scientific Adviser, Biosafe
Dr Sinikka Latvala, Regulatory Manager, Biosafe

While probiotics rely on live microorganisms, emerging research shows that inactivated microbes—known as postbiotics—can provide similar benefits without the same safety and stability constraints, opening new avenues for product development.

Join for a webinar exploring what postbiotics are, how they differ from probiotics, and their practical applications across food, feed, and dietary supplements. We will cover the scientific evidence, key benefits and limitations, and critical regulatory considerations for developing postbiotic products.

The quick and the dead: the benefits of postbiotics

Speakers:
Prof. Atte von Wright, Scientific Adviser, Biosafe
Dr Sinikka Latvala, Regulatory Manager, Biosafe

Probiotics have an established role in both human dietary supplements and animal feed. Their benefits have traditionally been associated with live microorganisms that, when consumed in sufficient amounts, provide a benefit to the host.

Increasingly, however, research is showing that microbial viability is not always required. Inactivated microorganisms and compounds derived from them may also provide beneficial effects. These so-called postbiotics open up new possibilities for product development while potentially avoiding some of the safety considerations associated with the use of live microorganisms.

In this webinar, Prof. Atte von Wright and Dr Sinikka Latvala will explore what postbiotics are, how they differ from probiotics and what their growing use could mean for food, feed and dietary supplement applications.

The session will discuss the potential benefits and limitations of postbiotics, the scientific evidence behind them, and the safety and regulatory considerations that companies should take into account when developing postbiotic products.

Join us for a practical introduction to an emerging field at the intersection of microbiology, product development and regulation.
